STEVEN ALLERTON was born in the year 1642 in Florence Italy, then miraculously transported to the Twentieth Century. Only kidding. He is, however, a Renaissance Man, having explored many media in his search for self expression. Graduating from The Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, where he spent a year in Rome, Italy, Steve spent a few years traveling the country to art shows exhibiting his paintings and later selling musical instruments that he made. It was around this time that he first discovered jewelry as an art form.
In his late twenties, Steve bought a small sailboat and left his home in upstate
After these years of exploring he arrived in Key West. His initial years were spent as a benchman in a shop on Duval Street; then he later launched a venture in the sailboat charter business. Around this time, while at sea, he got the idea for the Dolphin Whistle, a tiny sculpted Dolphin worn around the neck which when blown into reproduces the mating call of the Bottlenose Dolphin. (Some say it has been known to work on human beings, as well.) The piece was advertised in the Smithsonian Magazine for a number of years and continues to sell all over the world. |
